Joy To The World

Thanks for joining us today. If you’re on Facebook be sure to say hello. If you’d like to give today you can do so at

One of the best parts of the story – joy of that night

There was so much turmoil – under Roman rule – miserable
God brought “great joy”

Luke 2:8-10 “And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.’”

I think one of the missing things in Christmas today – joy
For many – Christmas isn’t so holly jolly

Silent night – finding inner peace

Love to laugh? I do – and love to listen to people laugh.

Ecclesiastes 3:1, 4 “There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven…a time to laugh.”

It’s one of the healthiest things you can do

Psalm 2:3 “The One enthroned in heaven laughs.”

It’s an important Biblical quality – joy
Here’s why…

Joy can change my approach to life.

Think about all the different aspects of your life
Emotions will affect it more than anything else

Nehemiah 8:10 “…the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

You are stronger when your attitude is strong – emotions are solid
It will give you an uncommonly positive perspective on life

Joy will turn my problems into blessings.

It has the ability to turn bad things into good things

Proverbs 17:22 “A cheerful heart is good medicine.”

Joy will affect those around you.

It’s contagious
Can totally change the dynamic of your Christmas

Don’t take yourself too seriously

Psalm 126:1-2 “When the Lord brought back the captives to Zion, we were like men who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, ‘The Lord has done great things for them.’”

Matt 1:21-23 – 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Emmanuel”—which means, “God with us.”

Isaiah 7:14—740 years

Luke 1:28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”

  • Alone with you as companion.
  • Sick with you as healing.
  • Lost with you as guide.
  • Hurt with you as hope
  • Weak with you as strength.
  • Sin with you as savior

God of all comfort who comforts us in our troubles!

Parakaleo — to come along side of.

Sometimes it’s easier to see his presence in the past than in the present.
Joseph—beaten in a pit, sold into slavery, false accused.

Gen. 39:21 NKJV – But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

Look ahead… what could happen?
Cancer? Marriage? Job? College?

Rev 1:8 -“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
